ALEŠ VESELY

Ales Vesely, professor of sculpture, started erecting his work in Europos Parkas in 1998. The artist is very popular in his native country – the Czech Republic, as well as in the United States of America and Japan. His Chamber of Light was produced in as many as three Lithuanian factories, while special springs were made in one Czech factory. Lithuanian craftsmen had to work hard before the results of their work satisfied the sculptor. By that time, the number of Vesely’s visits to Europos Parkas had reached a record number – eleven times.

The sculpture has one unique and unexpected quality that distinguishes it from other works, and makes it one of the most popular works in the park, especially among children. It is an almost nine-metre-high steel structure that weighs forty-four tons. The four openings invite entry. Inside the structure a visitor will find mirror surfaces that radiate light. Once you step in, the floor will unexpectedly start swinging, and the more people that come in, the more the floor swings.
