The "house"of Botto and Bruno at Europos Parkas

DIDART project, May 2005

Gianfranco Botto (born 1963, Turin) and Roberta Bruno (born 1966, Turin) began their artistic collaboration in 1992. Their work relates to suburban life and its constant changes. Their method of working involves adhering large images to walls like wall paper.

"Many of our works are made of fragments of many different photos, cut by hand. In our travels we often get lost in the cities and we photograph all that we are interested in. Then we print the photos and only later on, in the studio, the real editing begins: we cut the parts we need from the photos in order to insert them in another context." - say artists.

During the workshop in Europos Parkas, artists invited the children to tell about the city, by means of the use of collage, freely taking words and images from newspapers and magazines. They discover that in this experience it is not necessary to know how to draw, or to have any particular technical abilities, because, when they are in a hurry to tell the story of something, they can use all resources available, and they can make use of images that already exist, or re-use them to make them come to life in different contexts.
